After winning SA Idols in 2012, Khaya Mthethwa gained many fans around the country. The following year he went on to enter another competition called The Clash of Choirs, ultimately winning that as well. With his vocal abilities allowing the artist to adapt to many different genres he eventually set out to release albums of award winning quality. In 2016 he went on to win The Best Newcomer Award at the 12th AMFA and in 2017 he would also win the award for Best Contemporary Faith Music Award at the SAMA’s.
